Milk allergy Hives : Causes, Symptoms and treatment

About 2 to 3% of infants and babies may get hives in the body after consumption of milk or milk products and these types of hives are known as Milk allergy hives. These types of hives get triggered in the infants or babies due to allergic reaction in the body after taking milk product.

When a person who is allergic to milk consumes milk or milk products than body immune system identifies milk protein as an allergen product and thus produces antibodies which are released by body to fight against allergic product, these antibodies which is generally known as immunoglobulin E (IgE) causes allergic reaction inside the body. This allergic reaction causes certain chemicals called histamines in the body that causes appearance of hives in the body.

Hives generally appears as a result when a foreign substance or an allergen get inside the body, immune system of our body causes allergic reaction which releases histamines in the blood stream that causes hives to occur in the body.

Some of the symptoms that appear in the body because of Milk allergy hives in children are:

  • Patches of swollen red or pink colored bumps appears on the whole body or certain body parts.
  • Skin rashes or eczema may develop.
  • Abdominal pain may also occur
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and other problems may also occur.
  • Cough and fever
  • Runny Nose

Milk allergy hives can occur in people of all ages but it is generally seen in babies that may get cured after they attained age of two or three year. But in some condition it may persist for life time.

The most common treatment for milk allergy hives are to avoid taking milk or milk products but as milk is an important part of diet and especially for infants and babies so other milk supplements like fruit juices and soy milk can be used. Antihistamines may be taken for hives treatment. Milk allergy hives is a kind of skin disorder that is reduced or prevented by taking proper care and treatment.
